About Me

From the first time I drove over the bridge to Hilton Head Island more than 20 years ago, I knew I was destined to be an island girl. My love for the island, its fascinating wildlife, and my beloved Golden doodle, Hilton, inspired me to create Hilton’s Island—a story filled with adventure, lovable animals, and an important lesson about staying close to the people who love you.
Before becoming a children’s author, I spent more than 40 years as a cellular and molecular biologist. My life in science fueled my curiosity about the natural world and my love of learning—something I now bring to Hilton’s adventures by introducing young readers to animals, nature, and a little discovery along the way.
I divide my time between Hilton Head Island and Connecticut with my husband, Mark. I’m the mother of two daughters and a very proud grandmother. When I’m not writing, you’ll usually find me cooking, gardening, walking, reading, or combing the beach for sharks’ teeth!

Michele is an author and illustrator of children's books. She is currently retired from twenty five years of teaching art and was the creative visionary for the Great Lakes Visual & Performing Arts Academy for Sandusky Schools.
A busy grandma of thirteen grandchildren, Michele resides with her husband, Mike and fluffy Labradoodle, Chloe - who sometimes posed for illustrations in Hilton's island. You can find Michele in Northern Ohio, or Manitoulin Island in Canada, where she also enjoys interior design, sewing and when stressed, devouring chocolate covered peanuts.
